rhinoceros head marks, for 18ct gold, initials MD, numbered 9877 and 6, with ACS maker's mark, with a skein of silk, for Strauss, Ettlinger et Cie, with a curb safety chain, circa 1907.

The limited partnership of Strauss, Ettlinger et Cie was formed, on 29th December, 1906, in Paris, between Armand Cahen-Strauss, Paul-Léopold Ettlinger and Auguste Ettlinger, and became formally active from 1st January, 1907. The company specialised in the design, making and retailing of fine jewellery, and liturgical objects, such as monstrances, chalices, ciboria, patens, etc.. In legal documents it was often referred to as 'A.C.Strauss, Ettlinger et Cie (maison J.Moche et Cie)' which suggests that after retirement of the jeweller J.Moche, in 1903, the partnership acquired his intellectual property assets, including a brand name. Strauss and Ettlinger reapplied in 1908 for a metal mesh fabric patent in Germany for the export of purses, reticules, bags, coats and other chain mail articles. The name of the partnership was changed to 'Ettlinger et Cie' on 1st January, 1910, when Cahen-Strauss took retirement and sold his share to the Ettlinger brothers. However, the company continued to use the brand names 'A.C.Strauss, Ettlinger et Cie (maison J.Moche et Cie)' and 'Ettlinger et Cie (maison J.Moche et Cie)' until its closure in 1930 benefiting from associated goodwill. The name Moche explains the maker’s mark, although by direct translation the word means ugly, in current use, historically it was also used for a twist of silk, very much like a silk skein.

An antique, French, Art Nouveau, emerald and diamond bracelet, with embossed, foliate openwork plaques, with diamonds in the centre, flanked by a row of calibré-cut emeralds, mounted in gold, with a maker's mark, for Strauss, Ettlinger et Cie., circa 1907.
<>
https://moirafinejewellery.com/all-jewellery/9083-antique-french-emerald-diamond-and-gold-bracelet.html
<>
<
>
<>
<>
<>
<>
>
